This film adaptation of the successful London and Broadway show stars Pauline Collins as Shirley, a middle-aged woman in an endless homemaking rut. Shirley speaks directly to the camera about her hopes and disappointments, which play out through failed cooking and her disgruntled spouse. Her humor carries her through. Ultimately Shirley travels to Greece with a friend and falls back in love with herself.
